Join us at QPAT on November 15th

Are you attending the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers (QPAT) Annual Convention on November 15th? If so, be sure to join us at 10:30 am in the Westmount room at Hotel Bonaventure in Montreal for session C37, “Infusing Indigenous Knowledge into Math and Science Learning Situations”. This session will be co-led by E. Diane Labelle, Pedagogical Counsellor with the First Nations Adult Education School Council and Learning Bird’s own Joelle Chemali, Education Projects Manager.

Diane and Joelle will look at how teachers can create spaces and incorporate practices that facilitate Indigenous knowledge, voices, students, and materials. This session is designed for all teachers across elementary, secondary, and adult education, and it will place a special emphasis on how Indigenous knowledge can be applied to Math and Science learning situations. From our interactions with teachers over the years, we are often told that these are the two subject areas where they find it challenging to integrate Indigenous knowledge.

In this hands-on session, we will share ways to help teachers Indigenize and decolonize their own classes and curriculums. We will also look at examples of resources from an Indigenous perspective, and with guidance, we will collaboratively work to create an instructional plan for a given set of topics.

The complete session agenda is available on the convention website. Teachers can reach out to their local school board for information on attending.

If you have an interest in chatting further with us, we are also available for one-on-one meetings at QPAT after the presentation. Please reach out to us at 1-888-844-9022 ext. 808, or contact us by email to arrange a time to talk.
