Join us at QPAT on November 15
Are you attending the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers (QPAT) Annual Convention on November 15? If so, be sure to join us at 10:30 am in the Westmount room at Hotel Bonaventure in Montreal for session C37, “Infusing Indigenous Knowledge into Math and Science Learning Situations.” This session will be co-led by E. Diane Labelle, Pedagogical Counsellor with the First Nations Adult Education School Council and Learning Bird’s Education Projects Manager Joelle Chemali.
Diane and Joelle will explore how educators can create spaces and incorporate Indigenous knowledge, voices, learners, and materials. They designed this session for all elementary, secondary, and adult educators. It will emphasize how educators can apply Indigenous knowledge to math and science learning situations. Over the years, educators have told us they find it challenging to integrate Indigenous knowledge into these two subject areas.
We will share ways to help educators Indigenize and decolonize their classes and curriculums in this hands-on session. Diane and Joelle will also look at examples of resources from an Indigenous perspective. We will collaboratively create an instructional plan for a given set of topics.
The complete session agenda is available on the convention website. Educators can reach out to their local school board for information on attending.
We are available for one-on-one meetings at QPAT after the presentation if you want to chat more. Please reach out to us at 1-888-844-9022 ext. 808, or contact us by email to arrange a time to talk.
